Top 100 Photographers of the Year 2020
It is an absolute honour to reveal our Top 100 Photographers of 2020! 2020 has been a crazy year for us all – there is no denying that – but one good thing that has come from this madness has been an increased focus (photography-pun intended) on ‘family’ – with everything that word entails. Our relationships, our interactions, our appreciation of life and others… it’s all been brought into a new light. And that’s where capturing those moments – those unique, little fleeting moments that mean so much – have only increased in importance.
We are so proud to reveal the very best photographers in the world who excel at doing exactly that: Capturing moments; capturing personalities; capturing relationships; capturing your family.
This is Reportage: Family has only been in existence for half of 2020, and we’re incredibly humbled to have hundreds of members from all over the globe already, who have been submitting truly world-class moments and Family Stories. With over 13,000 images submitted over just three different award Collections in 2020 (it will be a full year of six Collections for 2021), it has been incredibly difficult to win an award, with our five judges (who change for each round) typically choosing just the top few percent of individual captures (our Reportage Family Awards) and series of images of a single family (our Family Story Awards).
If a photographer has made it onto our Top 100 Worldwide list it truly is a remarkable achievement, and the photographers below really do represent the very best of documentary family photography.
Special congratulations to our inaugural Photographer of the Year: The fantastic Rowena Meadows. Rowena won an amazing haul of 14 Awards from us in 2020 (10 Reportage Family Awards and 4 Family Story Awards) – congratulations, Rowena! One of her Awards is shown at the top of this page.
Special congratulations as well to the four photographers who all tied as Storyteller of the Year: The brilliant Pedro Vilela, Rowena Meadows, Katrin Küllenberg and Menino Conhece Menina. All of them won four Family Story Awards each.
As well as the Top 100 Photographers Worldwide list below, you can also view our Top 10 Storytellers in the World, and we also have Top 10 rankings for the following countries: Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, Portugal, UK and the USA.
*Ranking is determined by overall number of Awards won in 2020; in the case of a tie, the photographer who won the most Family Story Awards ranks higher.
