About Ilona

I’m Ilona Flokstra, a documentary photographer from Almelo, the Netherlands. Life as it unfolds is what draws me in: the kitchen table, the wedding day, the quiet hours of a goodbye. My work moves between love and loss, and the real moment in between is always what I’m looking for. Farewell photography is at the heart of what I do. I also founded Wat Blijft, a collective of photographers who document loss after traumatic circumstances. What I hope my images do: help people look at themselves and the ones they love with a little more love.
